Best wishes are pouring in from world leaders for US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump who both tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.
White House aide Hope Hicks and former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway have also tested positive and are in quarantine. Republican senators Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Mike Lee of Utah. Trump’s campaign manager Bill Stepien also tested positive.
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany released a statement Friday evening from the president’s physician after he was transported to Walter Reed medical facility in Bethseda, Maryland.
The doctor said Trump is resting comfortably and that he has not needed any supplemental oxygen.
Supreme Leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un sent a message of sympathy and ‘warm greetings’ to the president on Saturday, wishing him well and hoping he quickly recovers, state media.
‘He sincerely hoped that they would be recovered as soon as possible,’ KCNA reported.
EU chief Charles Michel wished the couple a quick recovery on Friday. “Wishing @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS a speedy recovery. COVID-19 is a battle we all continue to fight. Everyday. No matter where we live,” Michel said in a tweet.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wished them a speedy recovery writing on Twitter: “My best wishes to President Trump and the First Lady. Hope they both have a speedy recovery from coronavirus.”
Johnson was the first world leader to be hospitalized after contracting COVID-19 earlier this year.
New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern wished the US president and his wife a rapid recovery from the virus on Friday. She imposed one of the toughest lockdowns in the world. As a result, New Zealand has seen only 25 deaths from COVID-19.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel wished the US President and First Lady a rapid recovery. “I send Donald and Melania Trump all my good wishes,” her spokesman Steffen Seibert tweeted on her behalf. “I hope that they recover well from their corona infection and will be quite healthy again soon.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin wished Trump a speedy recovery in a telegram, saying he was sure the US leader’s qualities would help him fight off the coronavirus.
“I am convinced that your vitality, good spirits and optimism will help you cope with this dangerous virus,” the Kremlin quoted Putin as saying in the message.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov had earlier wished Trump “a speedy and easy recovery” on behalf of the Kremlin.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the president and his wife a quick recovery: “Wishing my friend @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS a quick recovery and good health,” Modi said on Twitter.
He hosted a rally with Trump in his home state of Gujarat in February which was viewed by millions around the world.
In September 2019 Trump and the Indian premier also attended an event in Houston, Texas dubbed “Howdy Modi” in front of a huge crowd of Indian Americans.
The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, also wished the couple a “a full and speedy recovery” on Friday in a tweet.
