Democrats are in full panic mode as the attention of the public is now squarely focused on the mob violence and destruction raging across the country.
They thought they had the White House on lock with President Donald Trump on the run over what they perceived to be his catastrophic handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Now that a vaccine is expected to arrive just in time for the November election, Democrats are scrambling.
CNN commentator Van Jones was sounding the alarm Wednesday that Democrats need to refocus on coronavirus. He downplayed the billions of dollars in damage that several major U.S. cities have suffered during the months of looting and mayhem inflicted by Black Lives Matter and Antifa anarchists.
“There are things that Joe Biden and other progressives can do. They can begin to push down on the violence in our movement and then turn it back toward the people who are actually suffering. The businesses — there have been a couple of hundred businesses that have been hurt by arsonists,” said Van Jones blithely.
“There have been thousands that have been destroyed by mishandling this virus. We’ve got to get off of this conversation around unrest and back to the conversation around the literally millions of people who are suffering from the Trump economy and the mishandling of the virus.” he said.
Van Jones must be either delusional or willfully ignorant of the scale of destruction the leftist “peaceful protesters” have caused or he was locked in the basement with Democratic Party presidential nominee Joe Biden since May.
Jones is blissfully unaware that anarchists financed by the Democratic Party have looted, vandalized and burnt large swaths of the business districts of Chicago, Illinois, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Portland, Oregon, New York City, Seattle, Washington, Kenosha, Wisconsin and Los Angeles, California.
In the first few days after George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police on Memorial Day, rioters heavily damaged nearly 1,500 businesses and approximately 700 were completely destroyed, according to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and city officials. They estimate it could take as long as 10 years to rebuild its popular business corridors damaged during the riot and losses are estimated at nearly $1 billion.
Property owners are now forced to also pay hundreds of thousands of dollars just to clear the debris. Demolition of property according to the Star Tribune, costs anywhere from $35,000 to as much as $400,000.
More than 100 businesses were damaged during the recent unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin after the shooting of Jacob Blake, and at least 40 businesses were destroyed, according to The Kenosha Business Alliance.
“It could be as high as $50 million of losses, together with the businesses, the public infrastructure, the public buildings and what the tenants have lost,” said vice president Heather Wessling Grosz.
In the riot-ravaged city of Portland, Oregon the city has suffered $23 million in damage and the figure keeps escalating as riots continue, the Portland Business Alliance estimates.
In another transparent effort to downplay the widespread looting, damage and loss of life resulting from months of protests, the Washington Post published a propaganda-driven report, produced by the anarchist-aligned “nonprofit Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project.”
It claimed that out of 7,750 identified protests between May 26 and Aug. 22 in 2,400 locations, only 220 became “violent” even though police declared riots nearly every night in Portland, Oregon alone over almost 100 days of non-stop unrest.
The canard-laden report claimed that in 93 percent of cases analyzed, there was no violence. The violent protests were “largely confined to specific blocks, rather than dispersed throughout the city,” the report contended.
The statistics quoted in this study are not credible as the authors are clearly spinning a narrative to help the leftist anarchists and the Democratic Party. This became obvious when it spouted liberal talking points claiming that a “disproportionate police response” escalated tensions at protests.
The president threatened Wednesday to pull federal funding from New York City, Seattle, Washington DC, and Portland, Oregon, in a presidential memo saying “My administration will not allow federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones.”
“My administration will do everything in its power to prevent weak mayors and lawless cities from taking federal dollars while they let anarchists harm people, burn buildings, and ruin lives and businesses. We’re putting them on notice today,’ Trump tweeted.
He also ordered Attorney General Bill Barr to develop a list within 14 days of “anarchist jurisdictions” that “permitted violence and the destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures” to restore order.
