A wide swath of the American public, crossing party lines, back punishing China and returning jobs and manufacturing to the U.S., despite a months-long campaign by Democrats and the media to prop up the totalitarian country’s image.
The public is outraged at the despicable and underhanded behavior of the Chinese government for engaging in a cover-up when the virus surfaced in the city of Wuhan. Americans agree that China lied about it and failed to share critical data that could have been used to slow it.
A new survey from McLaughlin and Associates found a whopping 70% of Americans believe China hid vital information about the outbreak from world health officials, including 84% of Republicans and 58% of Democrats.
An overwhelming 75% of respondents support ending U.S. reliance on Chinese imports of medical equipment such as masks, including supporters and foes of the president. The survey found that “65% of those who disapprove of the job the president is doing, and 62% of Democrats want to end this dependence on China.”
Most respondents also agreed that it’s time for U.S. companies with “essential” manufacturing and technology to bring their operations and jobs back home with the help of tax incentives and tax credits. These ideas had bi-partisan backing from 72% of respondents, including 57% of Democrats and 84% of Republicans. They are also troubled by America’s reliance on Chinese technology and medical equipment.
“The pandemic has forged a historic consensus that crosses party lines on the need for unity, an embrace of American domestic manufacturing capability to restore our economy, and the need to recognize that China seeks to leverage the aftershocks of COVID-19 to advance their own geo-political agenda,” said the survey analysis from John McLaughlin and Jim McLaughlin.
“The Chinese communist party basically inflicted this virus on the world. And we should never forget that here in America,” Navarro concluded.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates parroted liberal talking points on CNN Sunday, praising the regime while bashing the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic.
‘China did a lot of things right at the beginning, like any country where a virus first shows up. ‘You know, some countries did respond very quickly and get their testing in place, and they avoided the incredible economic pain,’ he said.
‘It’s sad that even the US that you would have expected to do this well did it particularly poorly.”
White House Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro defended the administration and blasted China Sunday on FOX News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures. He blamed China for flooding the United States with faulty coronavirus antibody testing kits. He also accused the Chinese Communist Party of profiteering from the pandemic. The White House adviser serves as coordinator for the Defense Production Act.
“For a critical six-week period of time, China used its influence at the World Health Organization to hide the virus from the world. This was a time where that virus could have been contained in Wuhan. Instead, five million Chinese people went out from Wuhan and propagated the virus around the world,” Navarro said.
He accused China of hiding the virus behind the shield of the World Health Organization while “basically hoard personal protective equipment, and now they are profiteering from it.”
“They basically went around and vacuumed up virtually all of the PPE around the world, including a lot from this country, which was, for humanitarian reasons, sharing our PPE with them,” he said. “And what that did was leave people in New York, Milan, and everywhere in between defenseless when it came time to have that PPE.”
“One of the things that’s on my radar though that’s really troublesome is there is a lot of these antibody tests coming in from China now that are low quality, false readings and things like that,” said Navarro on Fox and Friends Monday. “We’ve got to be really careful.”
“China spun that virus. They hid it for six weeks. They could have contained it in Wuhan. They didn’t,” said Navarro. “They seeded the world with this, with hundreds of thousands of Chinese getting on aircraft to Milan, to New York and other places.”
