Demings demands extra-constitutional verdict on Trump

It has been sickening to watch Democrats and the media cloak themselves in righteousness as they push to execute the unconstitutional impeachment of the president.

House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Val Demings, (D-FL) had the gall to demand that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) recuse himself from the Senate’s impeachment trial on Friday. McConnell has all but ignored her self-serving utterances.

The suddenly pious Democrat tweeted Tuesday: I am a descendant of slaves, who knew that they would not make it, but dreamed and prayed that one day I would make it. So despite America’s complicated history, my faith is in the Constitution. I’ve enforced the laws, and now I write the laws. Nobody is above the law.”

She was incensed that McConnell told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday: “Everything I do during this, I’m coordinating with the White House counsel. There will be no difference between the president’s position and our position as to how to handle this to the extent that we can.”

Demings claimed in a news release issued by her office: “Sen. McConnell has promised to sabotage that trial, and he must recuse himself. No court in the country would allow a member of the jury to also serve as the accused’s defense attorney. The moment Sen. McConnell takes the oath of impartiality required by the Constitution, he will be in violation of that oath. He has effectively promised to let President Trump manage his own impeachment trial.”

After railroading the House Minority and passing new, partisan House procedures to govern the impeachment inquiry in the House of Representatives, Demings is suddenly a stickler for rules.

 She cited Chapter IV, Paragraph 5 and Chapter XXV of the Senate Rules, which stipulate that all Senators must take oaths of impartial justice in impeachment trials, claiming McConnell can no longer take such a pledge.

She didn’t care about oaths when Democrats stacked their newly-minted House rules against House Republicans and the president in an unprecedented manner. They refused to call any witness the minority requested outside of those approved by their party leaders. The president’s attorneys were not allowed to cross-examine witnesses. There was no co-equal subpoena power for the minority and no due process protections for the president. Their impeachment inquiry was marred by secret depositions in the Capitol basement and hidden transcripts. Members were not able to yield time to other members, which they had always been allowed to do on the House floor.

She pointed out that under the U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 3 “The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation.”

She had no qualms about disregarding the hallowed provision of the Constitution that sets the parameters for removing a president:

“The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

Democrats embody the accusation of abuse of power they have made against Trump. They are the ones that have trashed due process rights ever since he took office. They defended the false allegations cooked up in the Steele dossier, which they paid for, to back a special counsel investigation of the president which found no crimes.

They could not list a single statute he violated in their two pathetic articles of impeachment. They have abused their oaths to the Constitution and the country by accusing the president of crimes he has not committed without a shred of evidence.

This is a blatant move by Demings and her ilk to commandeer the Senate and bully lawmakers in their quest to oust the president, just like they did in the House. They don’t care about the Constitution unless they can use it in pursuit of his removal from office.

Dishonesty and corruption pervades the Democratic Party and the media. CNN’s village idiot Chris Cuomo, advocating for Trump’s impeachment in November said “if he gets impeached, that is a permanent stain. It will be the first thing people will know about his presidency forever…His name will be glued to being impeached for eternity.” Unfortunately for Democrats it is they who will bear the stain of this abhorrent moment in history.
