Pelosi admits hijacking House for soft coup

In a head-spinning twist, Democrats have opened up yet another front in their war on the president.

House lawmakers are now using precious time and yet more taxpayer resources to investigate whether he lied to former special counsel Robert Mueller in written answers he provided during the Russia probe.

House General Counsel Douglas Letter gave this inexplicable excuse Monday for their request to access grand jury material from Mueller’s investigation in the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Is this new probe a bid to drive President Donald Trump out of office by swamping him with multi-pronged, jack-in-the-box investigations? Will the sheer number and complexity of all their pointless probes, coupled with the avalanche of fake daily ‘bombshell’ headlines, do the trick by ‘flooding the zone?’ If Trump resigns, panicking moderate Democrats will avoid a divisive and politically damaging House vote.

The disarray in the Republican response to the Russia hoax was politically rewarding for Democrats. They are now discombobulated by the unified, resolute, even militant response of Republicans to the unfolding Ukraine hoax.

Even more distressing is the response of swing-state Independents who are disgusted by the never-ending impeachment circus in Washington while important legislative issues pertaining to border security, healthcare, the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, infrastructure, drug pricing and a budget simmer on the backburner.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wrote a memo to her caucus Monday with an explosive claim: “The facts are uncontested that the president abused his power for his own personal, political benefit, at the expense of our national security interests. The weak response to these hearings has been, ‘Let the election decide.”

“That dangerous position only adds to the urgency of our action, because the president is jeopardizing the integrity of the 2020 elections,” she wrote.

Any proposal for a non-bipartisan change in political leadership outside of our national election must be scrutinized for its grave implications. A soft coup often involves executing a conspiracy or plot aimed at taking state power by partially or wholly illegal means to replace or exchange political leadership or transform the current institutional order of a country.

One must also view their actions against the backdrop of the multiple criminal pursuits, arrests and convictions of the president’s associates while many in the Democratic Party who have committed similar actions have somehow evaded prosecution.

The House launched an unusual and ahistorical impeachment inquiry after voting along party lines on rules and procedures which stripped the president and the Republican House minority of due process rights.

The House Judiciary Committee used to be the venue where presidential impeachment articles have traditionally been drafted and debated, but House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff has been overseeing the conduct of the inquiry from a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility in the basement of the Capitol.

By seizing the Intelligence Committee to run their inquiry it is clear that Democrats no longer prioritize homeland security or support for border patrol and immigration enforcement.

Moderate Democrats are now pushing to get the trade deal approved before Congress leaves for the Christmas holidays. There is already a logjam in the legislative pipeline as multiple government funding deadlines approach.

A drug pricing bill has been pushed back from a fall House vote and won’t be delivered until December, according to a Politico report.

Democrats need to be held accountable for the danger that their myriad unwieldy investigations pose to the American people as they commandeer multiple committees in the House to pursue and redo multiple probes into the president.

They want to make history by taking Trump’s scalp through impeachment, but they run the risk of becoming the most dangerous and unproductive House majority the country has ever witnessed.
