Harris pick pulls paltry $10.8 M online vs Trump’s $20M haul

The announcement of historic pick for vice presidential running mate, Kamala Harris, should have filled presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign coffers with insurmountable amounts of cash.

Democrats were thrilled to report Tuesday night that ActBlue, the main donation platform for Democrats pulled in more than $10.8 million in donations in four hours, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Clarke Humphrey, Biden’s deputy digital director tweeted excitedly that it was the campaign’s best fundraising period ever. “Stoked about running program that empowers supporters & makes days like this possible. Excited as heck for the Biden-Harris grassroots fundraising machine,” he added. Biden’s team did not release figures showing how much it had raised.

In contrast the rival campaign of President Donald Trump raised a record $20 million when it held its first virtual fundraiser in mid-July. The event was hosted by the president and the Trump Victory Finance Committee National Chair Kimberly Guilfoyle.

The campaign received over 300,000 donations and the president met virtually with the group of donors. He also held a Zoom call with a contest winner from Texas who teaches at a school for students with learning differences.

“Trump Victory’s groundbreaking fundraising record proves the American people are passionate about gaining four more years under President Trump’s strong leadership. Across the nation, the SILENT MAJORITY are coming together to donate their valuable time and hard-earned money to help make this President’s re-election a reality,” said Kimberly Guilfoyle, Trump Victory Finance Committee National Chair. “The most important measure of success in this race is enthusiasm, and the enthusiasm from President Trump’s supporters cannot be matched.”

The president tweeted Wednesday, “@KamalaHarris started strong in the Democrat Primaries, and finished weak, ultimately fleeing the race with almost zero support.’

‘That’s the kind of opponent everyone dreams of! ‘She did very very poorly in primaries, she ended up right around two per cent,’ Trump added.

‘She was very disrespectful to Joe Biden. It’s hard to pick someone that was that disrespectful,’

‘When she said things during the debates, during the Democratic primary debates that were horrible about Sleepy Joe, I would think you would not have picked her,’ Trump said.

At the first Democratic primary debate in late June 2019 Harris tackled Biden on his record on segregation and opposing busing in the 1970. During that era the federal government attempted to integrate schools by busing black students into predominantly white school districts.

“I was actually very — it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country,” Harris said. “And it was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing.”

“You know, there was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day,” Harris declared. “And that little girl was me.”

She was expected to be a major contender during the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination contest but she dropped out in December 2019 after struggling for months with low polling numbers and fundraising.
